Educational Trip to the Shah Cement Industries Ltd.

On June 29, 2024, the AUST Civil Engineering Society (ACES) arranged a full-day educational trip to the Shah Cement Industries Ltd, for final year Civil Engineering students from Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology (AUST). The main aim of this excursion was to offer students hands-on insight into Cement producing plant, thereby enriching their theoretical knowledge and practical skills. Accompanied by several faculty members from the Department of Civil Engineering, a total of 90 Civil Engineering students participated in this educational excursion to Shah Cement Industries Ltd. The visit was facilitated through the cooperation and assistance of brand and marketing team of the Shah Cement Industries Ltd.

Upon reaching the Shah Cement producing plant, the students received a warm reception from important figures responsible for operating and overseeing the plant. Among them were Mr. Istiaq Ahmed Sharif, Deputy Manager, HR and Admin Division and Mr. Abu Ahmed Zahid, Senior Manager and Head of Quality and Assurance. The visit started with a comprehensive briefing on the historical context and operational methods of the cement plant. This briefing highlighted the plant's commitment to maintaining high product quality and leveraging the latest technology, which has established Shah Cement as the leading cement brand in Bangladesh. A notable achievement of the plant is its vertical roller mill (VRM), the world's largest, which is capable of producing 15,000 tons of cement daily and 6 million tons annually, earning a place in the Guinness World Records. Following the briefing, the students were given a tour of the vertical roller mill (VRM) and the plant's logistics operations, which include ocean-going vessels, fleets of covered trucks, barges, and bulk carriers to ensure timely market supply.
