The Activities of the Office of the Controller of Examinations:
Requirements to Attend in the Semester Final Examination:
Students should maintain semester payment schedule as per deadline provided by the Office of the Registrar and students are expected to attend all classes in each course. All students are required 80% attendance in each class to sit for the semester final examinations.
Process:
The Examinations of all Bachelor Degree Programs of Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology (AUST) are held centrally at the end of every semester in accordance with respective academic calendar published at the beginning of each semester. There is a provision of Improvement/Clearance/Carryover Examinations following the Semester Final Examinations. Consequently the Examinations of all theoretical courses are arranged twice in a semester and the students of all undergraduate programs are given two chances to clear their regular and/or backlog courses in every semester, if any. The Semester Final Examination of Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology is conducted in three slots.
Conducting of Examinations:
Exam schedule, Seat Planning and other necessary documents are circulated on the University AUST website in due time before examination. Students also find the necessary information using their IUMS user ID. Student must carry their Identity card with valid sticker for semester final examination and Improvement/Clearance/Carryover examination.
Examinees are not allowed to enter the examination room 30 minutes after the commencement of the examination. Examinees are not allowed to leave the examination room during the last fifteen minutes of the Examination though he/she submits answer script to the invigilators. After collecting all answer scripts the examinees may go outside when the invigilators permit.
Beside Examination halls, there will be examinations by special arrangement at the conference room of ASW, AUST for sick examinees under the supervision of the Medical Officer, if needed.
Rules against Committing any Offence in the Examination Room:
For committing any type of offence in the Examination hall students are punished according to specific rules and regulations of the University. This punishment may be from warning to expulsion for good.
Marks Distribution of the courses:
The marks distribution of all theoretical courses of Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology is as follows:
The number of quizzes and/or assignments in a theoretical course of study shall ordinarily be (n+1), where ‘n’ is the number of credits of the course. Evaluation of performance will be on the basis of the best ‘n’ quizzes and/or assignments.
Duration of Examinations: The duration of all examinations in at AUST is 3 hours unless instructed others.
Publication of Result:
After completion of semester Clearance/Carryover/Improvement examination of a semester the promotion/Graduation list of each semester is prepared and provided to each Department/School within one or two weeks.
Grading System for Semester Final Examinations:
The letter grades and corresponding grade points will be awarded for theoretical courses in the semester final examination and for practical course in accordance with the Marks obtained by the students shown below:

Grading System for Improvement Examinations:
The student who secures the letter grade less than B in any course may sit for improvement examination to improve the grade up to B according to following grading rules. It may be mentioned that the students who will apply for Improvement Examination should keep in mind that his/her previous result of the applied course will be invalid. For 4 years degree program a student can apply for a maximum of 4 courses to improve his/her grade in his/her studentship.

Promotion:
A student will be promoted to the next higher semester under the following conditions.
Graduation:
After completion of all degree requirements the graduation lists of all Programs are published with permission of Hon’ble Vice Chancellor subject to approval of the Academic Council and the Syndicate.
GPA and CGPA Calculation system:
Grade Point Average (GPA) or Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) is the weighted average of the grade point of all courses obtained by a student. Credit of each course is used as weight. GPA refers to the Grade Point Average earned by a student for a specific semester and CGPA refers to the Cumulative Grade Point Average earned by a student up to a specific semester. Rules for Grade Submission and Upload:
After scrutinizing the answer script the scrutinizer uploads the marks in the IUMS. If correct, the Heads approve the marks and forward it to the Controller of Examinations. If satisfied the Controller of Examinations approves the marks. After approval of Controller of Examinations, the students can find their result using their IUMS user ID.
Changes/Correction of Students Grade Sheet:
Any correction of result after approval of Controller of Examinations must be approved by the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor.
Grade sheet distribution:
The office of the Controller of Examinations provides Grade sheet of each semester to the students after completion of all formalities regarding the examinations. Students can apply through IUMS for semester grade sheet.
Academic Transcripts and Provisional Certificate Distribution:
The students who complete all the requirements for degree are notified as graduates. After declaration of graduation the students can apply for Academic Transcript and Provisional Certificate with payments.
Procedure to get Documents:
Application forms are available in the office of the Controller of Examinations and also on the AUST website for Provisional Certificate and Academic Transcript. Students must attach original copy of Bank receipt and photocopy of Character Certificate with the application. Bank receipt is available in the office of the Controller of Examinations which can be filled up and fees can be deposited in the Bank. For semester grade sheets students will apply using their IUMS user ID
Documents Provided from the Office of the Controller of Examinations:
All types of documents related to Examination like Grade sheet, Promotion list, Provisional Certificate, Academic Transcript, Original Certificate are provided from the office of the Controller of Examinations. The students can apply through IUMS for any document with specific payment for each. The office of the Controller of Examinations office provides all documents within 7 working days.
Duration of Degree requirements:
The duration of all Engineering Program for undergraduate students and Bachelor of Business Administration are 4 years and the duration of Bachelor of Architecture is 5 years.
Limit of completion of Bachelor degree program:
All 4-years degree programs at AUST require completion of all degree requirements within a maximum period of 7(seven) years(14 semesters) while 5-years degree programs require completion of all degree requirements within a maximum period of 8 years (16 semesters). Failure to complete all degree requirements within the given time frame may disqualify a student from continuation of his/her study at AUST.
CGPA for Graduation:
The minimum CGPA for degree award is 2.200. The maximum attainable CGPA is 4.000. The CGPA for enrollment in the Dean’s list of Honor is 3.750 or more.
