Educational Excursion to Saidabad Water Treatment Plant

On the 2nd of October, 2023, the AUST Civil Engineering Society (ACES) organized a day-long study tour to the Saidabad Water Treatment Plant (SWTP) for the fourth year second semester Civil Engineering students of Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology (AUST). The primary objective of this visit was to provide the students with a practical understanding of water treatment processes and functions, thereby enhancing their academic knowledge and practical experience. A total of 50 enthusiastic civil engineering students, accompanied by several faculty members from the Department of Civil Engineering, embarked on this educational journey to Saidabad Water Treatment Plant. The visit was made possible through the cooperation and support of the Dhaka Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (DWASA).

Upon arrival at the SWTP, the students were warmly welcomed by key personnel involved in the operation and management of the plant. These individuals included: Mirza Golam Kibria - Superintending Engineer, Water and Sewage Treatment Plan Circle, DWASA, Md. Abid Hossain - Executive Engineer, DWASA, Kazi Maruful Haque - QHSSE Manager.

Before commencing the tour, the students were provided with a comprehensive presentation that outlined the historical background and operational procedures of the Saidabad Water Treatment Plant. This presentation allowed the students to gain a broader perspective of the significance of the plant in ensuring a clean and reliable water supply to the region.

The presentation also shed light on the various stages of the water treatment process, the equipment used, and the quality control measures in place to deliver safe drinking water to the community. The students had the opportunity to engage with the presenters, asking questions and deepening their understanding of the subject matter. As a gesture of gratitude and appreciation for the warm reception, invaluable insights, and hospitality extended by the staff at the Saidabad Water Treatment Plant, the AUST Civil Engineering Society (ACES) presented crests to Mirza Golam Kibria - Superintending Engineer, Water and Sewage Treatment Plan Circle, DWASA.

The study tour to the Saidabad Water Treatment Plant proved to be an enriching and educational experience for the participating students. The visit allowed them to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world applications in the field of civil engineering and water treatment.
