Prof. Dr. A.M.M. Safiullah, VC, AUST has received the IEB Award-2015


Prof. Dr. A.M.M. Safiullah, Vice-Chancellor, Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology (AUST), receiving IEB Gold 2015 Medal from the Honorable Prime Minister of the People's Republic of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina in the 56th IEB Convention.

Prof. Dr. A.M.M. Safiullah, VC, AUST has received the IEB (Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh) Award-2015 (Gold Medal) from the honorable Prime Minister of the People's Republic of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina in 56th IEB Convention held at IEB Headquarters, Ramna on 6th February, 2016.

In his colorful working life, Prof. Safiullah has acted as Consultant to a large number of projects of national interest related to transmission towers, stadiums, ports and jetties, roads on soft ground, and major bridge projects. He was a Member of Panel of Experts for the Bangabandhu (Jamuna) Bridge and the Multipurpose Cyclone Shelter Programme. Currently he is working as a Member of the International Panel of Experts (PoE) for the Padma Multipurpose Bridge advising the Bangladesh Bridge Authority (BBA) on foundation and geotechnical engineering issues.

As a researcher and teacher Prof. Safiullah has contributed immensely to the development of Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering in Bangladesh through his research and teaching at university level and also through numerous lectures to local engineering organizations. He has authored papers in national and international journals and conference proceedings related to inter alia geotechnical engineering, soil characterization, ground improvement, embankments, and earth structures. He is one of the authors of 'Foundation Chapter' of the Bangladesh National Building Code (BNBC, 1993) and Design Manual for Road Structures for Local Government Engineering Department.

In August 2006 he was appointed as the 10th Vice Chancellor of BUET, a post he continued till August 2010. After his retirement from BUET in 2011, he joined the Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology as its Vice Chancellor, a post which he is presently continuing. As Vice Chancellor of two top universities of engineering education in Bangladesh, BUET and AUST, he lead a team of dedicated engineering educators in enhancing the capabilities of our engineers who have achieved great success in national and global communities.
