Fall Semester - 2010 Orientation Program Held at AUST

Newly admitted students of Fall Semester 2010 were accorded welcome on 30 September 2010 at 11.00 AM by the Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. M. Anwar Hossain at the University Campus. Kazi Rafiqul Alam, President, Dhaka Ahsania Mission was present as the Special Guest on the occasion.

At the beginning one minute silence was observed in memory of   Prof. Dr. A.M. Shadullah, Dean of Faculty of Engineering who suddenly expired a few days ago. Then the program started with hoisting of AUST Flag along with the playing of the University Chorus.

Prof. Hossain in his speech said that to establish a reputed university, four elements are needed - quality students, quality faculty members, quality facilities and quality curricula and AUST is moving towards the fulfillment of the requirements. However, a lot yet to be done, particularly in case of the faculty and facilities. It is a dynamic process.

Right now AUST may claim to be the best in the private sector, if not in both the public and the private. A day would soon come when it would be one of the best in South Asia provided the elements required are fulfilled.

Kazi Rafiqul Alam said in his speech It is needless to be educated only; is also needed that a student is to learns morality so that he might serve the country as well as. He also suggested the new comer to receive help from their distinguished teachers and to learn attentively from the beginning.

Prof. Dr. Kazi Shariful Alam, Treasurer, Dr. A.F.M. Anwarul Haque, Dean, Faculty of Engineering, Prof. Bijon Bihari Sharma, Dean, Faculty of Architecture and Planning, Prof. Sirajuddaula Shaheen, Dean, Faculty of Business and Social Sciences and Prof. Dr. Anwarul Mustafa, Director of Student’s Welfare also spoke on the session. Heads of the Departments, Registrar, Teachers and Staff were also present in the function.

In the day long program, earlier the Parents/Guardians of newly admitted students of AUST accompanied their wards to the University and visited various facilities developed at the permanent campus of AUST and got acquainted with members of the faculty as well as other employees of the department of their wards. The Heads of the concerned Departments/School along with the faculty members received the parents/guardians and explained the academic programmes, rules and regulations etc. and showed them around the campus. The open house ended at 11.00 AM in the cafeteria of the university with a cup of tea in the presence of the Vice-Chancellor.

Later the students went to their respective departments for orientation. The academic and co-curricular activities of the University were explained. The course curricula, examination system, library facilities, reporting to the Department/ School, academic program, rules and regulations related to class attendance, discipline etc. were highlighted. At the end of the orientation, light lunch was served.
