A day-long program was organized for orientation and reception of the newly admitted students of AUST (Fall-2007) on 05 November 2007 at the present and permanent campus of the University. Newly admitted students participated in the program.
Orientation Program led by the Heads of the respective Departments along with the Faculty Members, started at 8:00 A.M. in the present campus. The academic and extra-curricular activities of the university were explained to the students. The course curricula, examination system, rules and regulations, class attendance, discipline etc. were highlighted to them also. Light refreshment was served in the respective department at the end of the orientation program.
The newly admitted students were also accorded welcome centrally at 4:00 P.M. at the newly built permanent campus of the university at 141-142 Love Road, Tejgaon Industrial Area, Dhaka-1215.
Prof. Nazrul Islam, Chairman, University Grants Commission, Bangladesh graced the occasion as chief guest. Prof. Dr. A.M.M. Safiullah, Vice-Chancellor, Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) was also present as the special guest. The function was presided over by Prof. Dr. M. Anwar Hossain, Vice-Chancellor, AUST.
Prof. Dr. Kazi Shariful Alam, Treasurer, Prof. Dr. M.A. Muktadir, Dean, Faculty of Architecture and Planning, Prof. Dr. S.M. Kabir, Dean, Faculty of Business and Social Science, Prof. Dr. A.M. Shadullah, Dean, Faculty of Engineering, Prof. Dr. M. Sahabuddin, Director of Students Welfare, the Heads of the Departments, the Registrar, Teachers and Officers of the university were also present on the occasion.
Prof. Nazrul Islam, Chairman of UGC, Bangladesh, in his speech emphasized that more opportunities as well as appropriate environment for quality higher education must have to be created in the country of 150 million people. He felt encouraged at the construction of the new permanent campus of AUST and urged other private universities to follow AUST as a model. He advised the freshers to take full advantage of the facilities developed by the University for training themselves as good professionals.
Prof. Dr. A.M.M. Safiullah, Vice-Chancellor, BUET highlighted engineering education in the light of science education and asked the students to develop themselves with a creative outlook as this is important for development and prosperity of a country
Prof. Dr. M. Anwar Hossain, Vice-Chancellor, AUST in his speech emphasized that there are tremendous prospects of quality higher education in the private sector provided appropriate supportive and regulatory measures are taken now in this transition phase. He also welcomed the new students and reminded them that they are entering the last phase of their 16 years of schooling before getting their first degree. AUST is always conscious about quality and it is believed that their journey through AUST would be enjoyable and rewarding.
Prof. Dr. Kazi Shariful Alam, Treasurer, AUST in his speech highlighted the background of the establishment of AUST and paid rich tribute to Hazrat Khan Bahadur Ahsanullah (R.) for his tireless efforts in spreading education in this part of the sub-continent.
Prof. Dr. M.A. Muktadir, Prof. Dr. S.M. Kabir, Prof. Dr. A.M. Shadullah and Prof. Dr. M. Sahabuddin also spoke on the occasion. Two new students, Mr. Meer Asibul Karim of Textile Technology Department and Ms. Fatema-Tuz-Zuhura of Electrical and Electronic Engineering Department also expressed their feelings on behalf of all the fresh students.
A colourful cultural function followed the program.
