Obituary
A.S.M. Atiquzzaman, Associate Professor of the Department of Textile Engineering expired suddenly on 26 September, 2015 at Square Hospital, Dhaka due to complications that followed dengue fever. He was 40. He left behind his wife, 3 daughters, parents, 3 brothers, many friends, colleagues and relatives to mourn his death.
Atiquzzaman received his Bachelor of Science in Textile Technology from the College of Textile Technology (currently Bangladesh University of Textiles, BUTEX) under the University of Dhaka in 1998. Immediately after his graduation he joined Padma Textile Mills Ltd of BEXIMCO group as a Production Officer. He switched his job in September 1999 over to BASF Bangladesh Ltd, a subsidiary company of BASF AG, Germany and continued there till May 2005.
Meanwhile, he went to The University of Dresden, Germany and obtained M Sc in Textile and Clothing Engineering with brilliant result in 2004. In the period of June 2005 to March 2006, he worked as a Director (Marketing) of a firm named Rosemary, Indenter and Importer of Textile Chemicals and Machineries, Dhaka.
His teaching career started at the Department of Textile Engineering of Ahsanullah University of Science & Technology (AUST) in April, 2006 as a Lecturer. After 3 months, he was promoted to the post of Assistant Professor and in July 2011, he was appointed as Associate Professor in the same department. During his 10-year teaching career, he was loved & respected by the students. To his colleagues, he was a cheerful & witty companion. He is one of the dedicated contributors to the development of the Department of Textile Engineering of AUST. He served as a coordinator of one of the major streams of the department namely wet processing. Two laboratories of that stream were under his supervision. His connection to industries enabled him to collect information on recent advances and technological practices in the industrial sector promptly. He helped the department to collaborate with industries needed to complete the project works of final year students and arrange industrial training & mill visits for students.
Recently a condolence meeting was held at the seminar room of AUST for mourning Atiquzzaman’s sad demise. In the meeting, all AUST faculties recalled his life and contributions to the university and prayed for his soul to rest in peace.
