Orientation and reception ceremony Spring 2009


A day-long program was organized for orientation and reception of the newly admitted students of AUST (Spring-2009) on 25 April 2009 at the recently constructed permanent campus of the University. Newly admitted students participated in the program.

Orientation Program led by the Heads of the respective Departments along with the Faculty Members, started at 8:00 A.M. The academic and extra-curricular activities of the university were explained to the students. The course curricula, examination system, rules and regulations, class attendance, discipline etc. were highlighted to them also. Light refreshment was served in the respective department at the end of the orientation program.

It was also an open house for the parents/guardians of the students from 8:00 A.M to 10 A.M. The departmental Heads along with their faculty members talked with them and showed them around the campus to explain the modern facilities developed for the students. Finally they were entertained with a cup of tea in the cafeteria. The newly admitted students were also accorded welcome centrally at 3:30 P.M.

Prof. Nazrul Islam, Chairman, University Grants Commission, Bangladesh graced the occasion as Chief Guest.  The function was presided over by Prof. Dr. M. Anwar Hossain, Vice-Chancellor, AUST.

Chief Guest Professor Nazrul Islam said that a teacher always feels proud equally for the success of a student. In this case teachers and students relationship play a vital role in the academic environment of the university. Pertaining the mission and vision of this university, students should build up their career for the future. Chief Guest also said, You freshers are entering into a vital time of your life. You should be proud to get the chance for admission in this spacious beautiful campus. AUST has made a remarkable achievement by shifting to its own permanent campus first among the private universities where modern facilities have been developed. I hope, you will utilize your time properly and concentrate on your studies to maintain reputation of this university; because the future of this university is highly depended on your success.

Prof. Hossain said, in the age of globalization quality education is essential to serve in the global job market. You are students of engineering and must have to acquire professional basic knowledge. We are trying to develop AUST as a University of truly international standard. He also emphasized that very high quality students were admitted this semester. Out of more than 3500 brilliant applicants, only 800 were admitted for various programes of Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology.

Prof. Dr. Kazi Shariful Alam, Treasurer, AUST in his speech highlighted the background of the establishment of AUST and paid rich tribute to Hazrat Khan Bahadur Ahsanullah (R.) for his tireless efforts in spreading education in this part of the sub-continent.

Prof. Dr. A.M. Shadullah, Prof. Dr. M.A. Muktadir, Prof. Dr. S.M. Kabir and Prof. Dr. Md. Anwarul Mustafa also spoke on the occasion. Three new students expressed their feelings on behalf of all the fresh students.

A colourful cultural function followed the program.
