The Center for Extension Services (CES) of Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology (AUST) organized a seminar titled “Earthquake Management” on Thursday, 11 December 2025, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the M. H. Khan Auditorium of the university. Faculty members, officers, staff, and students of AUST participated in the seminar.
The program was graced by Prof. Dr. Md. Ashraful Hoque, Vice-Chancellor of AUST, and Prof. Dr. Sharmin Reza Chowdhury, Pro Vice-Chancellor (In-Charge) and Treasurer, AUST. Deans of various faculties, Heads of Departments, teachers, officers, staff, and students were also present. The session was chaired by Prof. Dr. Mehedi Ahmed Ansary, Professor, Department of Civil Engineering, BUET, and Founder Secretary General of the Bangladesh Earthquake Society.
The seminar began with a welcome address by Prof. Dr. Mazharul Islam, Director, CES, AUST. This was followed by remarks from Prof. Dr. A. K. M. Baki, Member-Secretary, CASR, who highlighted contemporary earthquake-related issues and introduced the session chair.

In his speech, Prof. Dr. Sharmin Reza Chowdhury referred to the Rana Plaza tragedy and underscored the necessity of effective earthquake-resistant building management. Prof. Dr. Md. Ashraful Hoque, Vice-Chancellor of AUST, emphasized the importance of earthquake preparedness and management, sharing his personal experiences and observations.
The keynote presentation was delivered by Prof. Dr. Mehedi Ahmed Ansary, who discussed comprehensive earthquake management strategies, including preparedness before an earthquake, actions during and after seismic events, principles of earthquake-resistant building design, and assessment of structural components such as building pillars. His presentation was supported by practical examples, photographs, and real-life case studies.

The seminar concluded with an interactive open discussion session, followed by a vote of thanks by Prof. Dr. Mazharul Islam, Director, CES, AUST.
