Symposium on "Sustainability in Textile Industry - Moving Forward (GOTS Perspective)"


On May 12, 2024, the Department of Textile Engineering at Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology (AUST) collaborated with Global Sustainable Certification Services Ltd. (GSCS) host a symposium on the subject that is currently gaining the most attention worldwide "Sustainability in Textile Industry - Moving Forward (GOTS Perspective)" at the university's premises.

The honorable Vice-Chancellor (in-Charge) and Pro-Vice Chancellor, Professor Dr. Mohammed Mahbubur Rahman, was present as the Chief Guest in this seminar. At the symposium, Mr. Ganesh Kasekar, representative of GOTS in the South Asia region, discussed the importance of organic production in the supply chain of the textile and apparel industry as the keynote speaker. Mr. Abdul Mottaleb, Managing Director, GSCS International Ltd. (GSCS) was present as special guest. The head of Textile Engineering department, Emdadul Haque, Associate Professor conducted the session.

Abdul Mottaleb stated at the symposium that GSCS International Ltd. is the only company in Bangladesh that works on environmental, chemical, ethical practice, and organic recycled certification as well as GOTS certification and other international certification in 35 countries in addition to Bangladesh. The primary areas of focus for GSCS are organic traceability, recycling, social and environmental sustainability, governance, chemical management, ISO certification, and more.

Honorable Vice Chancellor (in-Charge) and Pro-Vice Chancellor, Professor Dr. Mohammad Mahbubur Rahman in his chief guest speech said, AUST Textile Department is always playing a leading role in developing timely and efficient manpower by maintaining its progressive trend. The department of textile engineering currently offers four streams; a fifth, sustainability in textile innovation, will shortly be added.

It is a great pleasure for AUST and GSCS to collaborate with each other on long-term work on sustainability to integrate new generations into the sustainable movement. In this regard, GOTS can provide long-term technical support. Approximately 220 students and faculty members, including the departing classes of the AUST Textile Engineering department, attended the event.
