‘A Talk by DWm4 Architects’ – arranged by Department of Architecture, AUST

The Seminar and Workshop Organizing Committee of the Department of Architecture organized a seminar on "A talk by DWm4 Architects” by eminent Architect Mahmudul Anwar Riyaad, Architect Mamnoon Murshed Chowdhury, and Architect Shaoki Shamim on January 14, 2024, at the VC Seminar Room of Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology.

DWm4 Architects started its journey as an architectural design practice in 1995 as Metaphor Architects and changed its name in 2005. Currently, it operates along with its two sister concerns DWm4 Intrends and Latitude 23, engaged respectively in interior design and digital visualization. Over the years it has designed a lot of significant buildings, won several competitions, and received many awards. Currently, it is running under the leadership of its three principal Architects and partners, Architect Mamnoon Murshed Chowdhury, Architect Mahmudul Anwar Riyaad, and Architect Shaoki Shamim.

On behalf of the Seminar and Workshop Organizing Committee Ar. Nusrat Wahid, Assistant Professor, Department of Architecture, welcomed Prof. Dr. Mohammed Mahbubur Rahman, Honorable Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Jasmin Ara Begum, Dean, Faculty of Architecture and Planning, the presenters, respected faculties and students to the event. Ar. Mamnoon Murshed Chowdhury started explaining how they work as an inclusive team for each professional and competition projects. He also highlighted their design philosophy and design methodology, emphasizing old-school learnings such as starting a project with conceptual development followed by program analysis and design development. Following that, Ar. Shaoki Shamim demonstrated a mosque project in Noakhali. Finally, Ar. Mahmudul Anwar Riyaad presented two residential and one mixed-use project. He highlighted, due to site constraints, each project possessed different significant challenges. Within a residence, they provided a school facility that facilitates the local neighborhood. He mentioned that every project is shaped by its inherent spirit and context.

The talk inspired the audience, particularly the students of Architecture, for their future professional endeavors. The presenters underlined how they developed architectural practices over their 28-years professional careers in this talk.

A crest was presented to the presenters of DWm4 by Prof. Dr. Jasmin Ara Begum, Dean, Faculty of Architecture and Planning, AUST, accompanied by Prof. Dr. Shehzad Zahir, Convenor, Seminar and Workshop Organizing Committee. At the end of the event Prof. Dr. Jasmin Ara Begum gave vote of thanks to the presenters, faculty members, students, and the Seminar and Workshop Organizing Committee members Ar. Nusrat Wahid, Ar. S. M. Arafat Hossain, Ar. Ishrat Momtaz Badhan, Ar. Rifat Bin Ali and Ar. Shahriar Mahmud and student volunteers for their efforts to organize a successful seminar.
