AUST Hosted an Awareness Program on Hepatitis-B & Typhoid Fever


An awareness Program on Hepatitis-B and Typhoid Fever as well as Vaccination against them was held on 11th May,2014, Sunday from 9 am to 5pm in AUST Plaza. This Program was jointly organized by Incepta Vaccine Limited and Ahsanullah University of Science and technology.

Over 350 million people worldwide are infected with Hepatiti-B virus and globally around 1 million die due to consequences of this infection annually. According to Liver Foundation of Bangladesh, more than 10 million populations in Bangladesh have hepatitis B virus infection. 3% to 5% pregnant mothers are carrying hepatitis-B virus in our country.

Typhoid is a food and water borne gastrointestinal infection caused by Salmonella typhi bacteria. It is transmitted by the ingestion of food or water contaminated with the feces of an infected person that contain the becteria. This usually occurs due to poor hygienic habits, drinking water, outside food habit or poor sanitation condition. The prevalence of typhoid fever is very high in Bangladesh. The incidence is higher in children more than 10.5 per 1000 children. Moreover, treatment of typhoid fever has become difficult due to increasing antibiotic resistance against the bacteria. It is the time to prevent typhoid.
