On February 12, 2025, representatives from Strauss, a leading German workwear company, visited Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology (AUST) to engage with faculty members, students, and university leadership and to explore ongoing sustainability-focused initiatives. The visit was hosted by the Chair for Sustainability and Textile Innovation (CSTI), a joint project of GIZ International Services (GIZ InS) and AUST funded by STRAUSS.
During the visit, the delegates met with AUST’s top management, including the Vice-Chancellor, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, and Treasurer, to discuss the significance of industry-academia collaboration in shaping the future of sustainable textiles. They also interacted with students, toured laboratory facilities, and observed ongoing research and development activities.
As the Chairholder of CSTI, Dr. Mohammad Tajul Islam showcased the department’s work through hands-on demonstrations of textile technologies. The visit provided a valuable opportunity to discuss how industry-academia partnerships can drive impactful change in sustainable textile education and research.
The delegates were introduced to the newly launched “Sustainability and Textile Innovation” stream within AUST’s B.Sc. in Textile Engineering program. This cutting-edge curriculum, approved by the University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh, aims to equip students with advanced knowledge in sustainable textile technologies and innovative industry practices.
Under this partnership initiative, approximately one crore BDT has been allocated to establish state-of-the-art laboratories at AUST and organize essential faculty workshops and training programs. These efforts will ensure the effective implementation of the new curriculum and enhance research and learning opportunities for students.
This visit marks a crucial step toward enhancing industry-academia cooperation, paving the way for greater innovation and sustainability in Bangladesh’s textile sector.
