A daylong inter-university student competition program named AUST Civil Rivalry 2017 took place at Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology (AUST) on Saturday, 7th January 2017. A total of 235 students from eight public and private universities, namely AUST, BUET, IUT, MIST, Presidency University, RUET, SUST and UAP participated in six different competitions, namely, Creative Truss Bridge Model Competition, Innovative Poster Display, Battle of Project Presentation, Innovative Solution of Engineering Problem, CAD Maestro and Engineering Short Film Carnival. The inauguration ceremony in the morning was graced by Chief Guest Mr. Kazi Rafiqul Alam Chairman, Board of Trustees, AUST and President of Dhaka Ahsania Mission, Special Chief Guest Prof. Dr. M.H. Khan, advisor and founder vice-chancellor of AUST and Special Guest Prof. Dr. A.M.M. Safiullah, Vice-Chancellor, AUST. Prof. Dr. Md. Mahmudur Rahman, Head of Civil Engineering Department, AUST chaired the session. Afterwards, the participants moved on to the venues of their respective events. The six events took place in 4 venues at AUST, namely, CADD Lab, Dr. M.H. Khan Auditorium, Jury Room, and Conference Room adjacent to VC Office. A total of 18 judges from various educational institutions including AUST, BUET, DUET, IUT, KUET, and from government agencies including PWD and RHD decided the winners of different competitions.
The Battle of Project Presentation aimed to demonstrate the innovative ideas through showcasing projects. 30 students in 10 teams participated in this event and a team from MIST became champion. Innovative Poster Display demonstrate the innovative ideas through posters. 67 students in 34 teams participated in this event and a team from IUT became champion. Creative Truss Bridge Model focused on discovering the most efficient truss model to carry loads. 104 students in 35 teams participated in this event and a team from AUST became champion. CAD Maestro tested participants abilities to produce different drawings in AutoCAD in the most accurate manner within a given time limit. 47 students in 24 teams participated in this event and a team from BUET became champion. Participants in the Engineering Short Film Carnival showcased their artistic abilities to address contemporary problems faced by people of all ages and walks of life. 13 students in 5 teams participated in this event and a team from IUT became champion. Innovative Solution of Engineering Problem intended to test students aptitude to solve a given set of problems and provide the most feasible solution within a given time limit. 20 students in 10 teams participated in this event and a team from IUT became champion.
In the afternoon, an interactive career seminar was held, where Mr. Ayman Sadique, founder of 10 Minute School, was the keynote speaker. Chief guest Mr. Md. Abu Sadeque P.Eng, Director, HBRI graced the closing session, which was chaired by Prof. Dr. Md. Mahmudur Rahman. Chief Guest and chairman gave out prizes to the winning participants at the concluding part of the session.
