A Workshop on Enhancing Undergraduate Engineering Education with AI Tools

On October 6, 2024, Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology (AUST) will host a pivotal workshop entitled "Enhancing Undergraduate Engineering Education by Incorporating Complex Engineering Problem Solving (CEP) and Complex Engineering Activities (CEA) using AI Tools" This event, prominently featuring Prof. Dr. Md Ashraful Hoque, Vice Chancellor of AUST, as the Chief Guest, aims to equip the university’s faculty with the latest advancements in educational strategies that integrate Artificial Intelligence (AI) to tackle complex engineering challenges.

Scheduled from 10:30 am to 3:30 pm at the VC Seminar room, the workshop is organized by Prof. Dr. Mazharul Islam from the Mechanical and Production Engineering (MPE) Department. It is tailored specifically for the faculty members of the MPE department, emphasizing the importance of updating the current curricula to include CEPs and CEAs—elements vital for preparing students to effectively face the real-world engineering challenges of tomorrow.

The workshop’s primary goal is to deepen the understanding of complex engineering problems and activities. Through interactive sessions, faculty members will explore the characteristics and attributes of CEPs and CEAs, learning how to weave these elements into their teaching methodologies. Additionally, the workshop offers hands-on experience with advanced AI tools, providing educators with practical insights into how technology can be leveraged to enhance problem-solving and activity-based learning in engineering.

A significant aspect of the workshop is the opportunity for attendees to network with fellow educators and industry experts. This will foster a collaborative environment where ideas and strategies for advancing engineering education can be freely exchanged, encouraging the development of a robust community focused on continuous improvement and innovation.

The upcoming workshop at AUST represents a significant step towards redefining engineering education through the integration of AI tools in complex problem-solving and engineering activities. By aligning the university’s educational strategies with the latest technological advancements, AUST is setting a benchmark for preparing the next generation of engineers to tackle future challenges with competence and confidence. The leadership shown by figures like Prof. Dr. Md Ashraful Hoque in promoting these initiatives highlights the university’s dedication to fostering an academic environment that not only evolves with but also drives technological progress in engineering education.
