AHSANULLAH UNIVERSITY OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY

Department of

Mechanical and Production Engineering

Department of Mechanical and Production Engineering has formally started its journey on Spring Semester-2010 at Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology. Our mission is to educate persons for professional and technical excellence, to perform research to advance the science and practice of engineering, to engage in service activities that advance the department, the university and the profession, and to instill in ourselves and students habits and attitudes that promote ethical behavior, professional responsibility and careers that advance the well-being of society. The department offers two undergraduate degree programs: Bachelor of Science in Industrial and Production Engineering (B.Sc. in IPE) and Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering... Read More

MESSAGE FROM HEAD

Welcome to the Department of Mechanical and Production Engineering (MPE), Ahsanullah University of Science & Technology (AUST). The department began its journey in 2010 with the Industrial and Production Engineering (IPE) program, and soon after one year the Mechanical Engineering (ME) program was launched. Primary aim of the department is to inculcate the students in the fields of IPE, and ME in order to produce graduates with lofty attributes as deemed in the vision and mission of the university. Accordingly, the curricula of the undergraduate (UG) programs are designed and meticulously reviewed by addressing a congruous collection of information on industrial needs; feedbacks from industries, alumni and other stakeholders; recommendations from internal and external assessors; and the observations made during the accreditation process; are deliberated and scrutinized to incorporate in the curricula. Thus, the UG curricula of both the programs undergo a systematic process of Continual Quality Improvement (CQI) and are taught by highly qualified faculties to equip our students with the knowledge and skills necessary to face the everchanging demands and challenges encountered in the respective fields. As a result of such vigorous efforts, our UG degrees offered from both the programs have earned accreditation in 2018 from the Board of Accreditation for Engineering and Technical Education (BAETE).

It is to be noted that the graduates of the two streams are to hold unique positions in the realms of industrial supply chain matching with their focal academic backgrounds. In general terms ME program concentrates mostly on the robust mechanical systems while the concern of IPE program lies in the optimized processes, operations and management. Keeping this view in our action plan, the courses in the curricula are chosen. Despite a presence of wider common coverages in the two programs, there is an implicit difference in the thrust areas of knowledge. IPE program focuses on the design of Products and Processes; CAD/CAM/CIM; Emerging Manufacturing technologies; Operations, Planning and Management in the pursuit of enhanced economy, quality, speed and flexibility of the manufacturing systems. While ME program emphasises more on robustness and reliability in designing systems relating to Mechanical, Thermo-fluid; Refrigeration and Air-conditioning; Control and Robotics; Automotive; Renewable energy solutions and applications of CAD/CAE/CFD.

In addition to the academic feat, we encourage our students to develop their capabilities in planning, organizing and leading through participation in the extra-and-co-curricular activities. I am happy to see that there two are societies and several clubs where the students are enthusiastically involved and highly active. They hold regular events including sports, job fairs, seminars and workshops, connect with local and international bodies and get exposed to the latest development in their respective fields of interest. I am delighted to note that the students of MPE department have a very rich history of competing in numerous national and international contests and proving their competencies by winning prizes.

Along with the rapid industrial progress of the country, there has been a significant growth in the demands of ME and IPE graduates. Majority of our graduates have attained distinguished positions in the industry, government, and academia locally and abroad maintaining a high level of employability. A handful of our graduates have secured admission and completed their post-graduate studies at various reputed institutions around the world. Our alumni have positioned themselves in a number of reputable businesses as promising entrepreneurs. Behind this scenario of success, the combined efforts and contributions of our faculties, laboratory and office staff as a family, as well as the cooperation from all other stakeholders cannot be exaggerated.

I hope that our graduates will continue to demonstrate their superior performance in the job market and our faculties, in addition to their teaching and supervisory involvement, will utilize their expertise to elevate the standing of local industries by devising solutions to the challenges emerged in the path of sustainable development goal and adoption of Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR).
