Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology (AUST) in collaboration with the Bangladesh Industrial Technical Assistance Centre (BITAC) successfully conducted an advanced training program on CNC Milling. This partnership aimed to refine the technical skills of faculty members and lab attendants from AUST's Department of Mechanical and Production Engineering (MPE). The five-day intensive workshop, held from September 29 to October 3, 2024, focused on both theoretical and practical aspects of CNC machining and software applications pivotal to modern manufacturing processes.

The training was inaugurated by Md. Ziaul Haque, Director from BITAC’s Technology Transfer Institute (TTI), emphasizing the commitment of both institutions towards technological empowerment and industry-relevant skill enhancement. The workshop commenced at the AUST machine shop lab where participants, totaling 23 faculty members and lab attendants, were introduced to the fundamentals of CNC Milling Machine operations by Mohammad Humayun Kabir, Executive Engineer from TTI (BITAC). This session provided the attendees with hands-on experience, crucial for understanding the operational nuances of advanced manufacturing technologies.

Progressing with the curriculum, the training transitioned to the TTI Building at BITAC for the remaining three days, where more complex skills were addressed. Mr. Rayhan Rushdi, Executive Engineer from TTI (BITAC), took the lead in educating the participants on utilizing SolidWorks and MasterCam for designing and coding specific to CNC milling operations. This advanced training was designed to enable participants to seamlessly integrate design and manufacturing processes, enhancing their capabilities in digital fabrication.

The closing ceremony of the training program was a confluence of academia and industry leaders, underscoring the collaborative effort of AUST and BITAC. The event was honored by the presence of Parimal Singha, Director General (Additional Secretary) of BITAC, and AUST’s own esteemed faculty including Prof. Dr. A N Mustafizul Karim, Head of the MPE Department; Prof. Dr. Mohammad Sarwar Morshed, Director of IQAC; and Prof. Dr. Md. Nurul Absar Chowdhury, Chairman of the CNC Machining and Utilization Technology Center (MUTC). Additional Director from TTI (BITAC), Md. Jahangir Alam, along with the initiating Director, Md. Ziaul Haque, were also present.

Participants received certifications at the closing ceremony, recognizing their enhanced skills and preparedness to apply this advanced knowledge within their educational and professional endeavors. This training is a testament to the proactive approach of AUST and BITAC in bridging the gap between academic knowledge and industry requirements, ultimately fostering a workforce equipped to tackle the challenges of the evolving engineering landscape. Through such initiatives, AUST continues to enhance its academic offerings and reinforce its stature as a leader in technical education in Bangladesh.
