The ASME AUST Student Chapter hosted a webinar titled "Introducing Artificial Intelligence (AI) to the Non-Computer-Based Audience" on February 8, 2023 from 7:30 PM to 9:00 PM.
Prof. Dr. Md Raisuddin Khan, Department of Mechatronics Engineering, International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, graced this webinar with his remarkable AI-related insights and experience. The webinar was accessible to all students and faculty. The webinar provided participants with extensive knowledge about cutting-edge technology and its possible applications.
Synopsis:
Artificial Intelligence (AI) has evolved as a promising discipline during the last few decades. The strength of AI lies in its learning and decision-making capability in complex data-driven environments. People from different existing disciplines either as individuals or in groups are contributing to this emerging field, specifically, people with computer science backgrounds are playing a key role. This talk is mainly designed for the non-computer science background audience to help them understand AI. The talk will highlight a few types of AI techniques like Fuzzy logic, Artificial Neural Network (ANN), Genetic Algorithm (GA), and graph-based algorithms in robotics navigation. The talk will also try to shed light on mathematics and programming requirements for practicing AI through some examples.
About the Speaker:
Professor Dr. Md Raisuddin Khan received his B.Sc. degree in Mechanical Engineering from the former Engineering College, Rajshahi, Bangladesh [currently known as Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET)] in 1983. He received his M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Mechanical Engineering from the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) in 1988 and 1996 respectively. Currently, he is a professor in the department of Mechatronics Engineering at the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM). He has been serving the Mechatronics Engineering Department of IIUM for more than twenty years. He has wide experience in designing and reviewing Mechatronics Engineering curricula of different universities in Malaysia and overseas. He had been the coordinator of the Autonomous Systems and Robotics Research Unit (ASRRU) of IIUM for more than five years. He also served as a member of the executive committee of the IEEE Robotic Automation Society (RAS) Malaysia chapter for several terms. His research interest covers robotics, smart devices, vibration, and stress analyses of structures. He has so far published more than seventy papers in different international journals and conferences. He is a life fellow of IEB and BSME, and a Senior member of IEEE.
