On 16th February 2023, the students of 4th year, 2nd semester of IPE program of the MPE Department along with their faculty members visited the Triple Super Phosphate (TSP) Complex Limited factory in Chattogram. It is the only TSP-producing factory in Bangladesh with a capacity of 1 lac 20 thousand metric tons (MTs) per annum. It was established in 1974 and is under the supervision of Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC). It acquires its raw materials which are mainly rock phosphate, rock sulphur and phosphoric acid from Morocco and Jordan. The factory consists of 2 units of TSP fertilizer-producing facility with an installed capacity of 1,52,000 MT (Unit-1: 32,000 MT and Unit-2: 1,20,000 MT).
TSP fertilizer is a high-analysis phosphorus fertilizer that is used extensively in agriculture to increase crop yields. TSP fertilizer is made by reacting rock phosphate with phosphoric acid, which results in a water-soluble fertilizer that can be easily absorbed by plants. Apart from producing TSP fertilizer, TSP Complex Limited also produces Single Super Phosphate (SSP) fertilizer, which is a lower-analysis phosphorus fertilizer. The company is committed to producing high-quality fertilizers that meet the needs of farmers in Bangladesh and beyond.
The students were supervised by the engineers and were given a brief about the whole production process and the quality management techniques as they visited different departments of the factory.
It was a good day for the students to learn about one of the important production facilities in the agriculture sector of Bangladesh.
