Dr. Taskin Jamal, Assistant Professor of the Dept of EEE, was invited by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) to deliver a talk at the "Subregional Meeting and Capacity Building Workshop on Accelerating the Transition to Electric Mobility for Public Transport in Asia and the Pacific", held in Dhaka, Bangladesh on May 10-11, 2023. The Road Transport and Highways Division (RTHD), Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges, Government of Bangladesh, UNESCAP, and World Bank jointly organised this event. Honourable Road Transport and Highways Minister Obaidul Quader, MP, addressed as the Chief Guest in the inaugural session. The workshop aimed to introduce the Asia Pacific Initiative on Electric Mobility, facilitate knowledge exchange, and discuss policy recommendations for advancing electric mobility in the subregion and Bangladesh.
During the event on May 10, 2023, held at the Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel in Dhaka, Dr. Taskin Jamal presented his talk titled "Exploring the Battery Driven Electric Vehicle Sector in Bangladesh and Our Inclusive Roles" in the session – “Preparedness to develop policies to accelerate the transition to electric mobility in Bangladesh”. Dr. Taskin's talk shed light on various aspects of the electric vehicle sector, including its global statistics, technical and business modalities, challenges to adoption, and the importance of inclusivity in the sector. His talk shed light on the role of AUST in ongoing research efforts and received praise from stakeholders present at the event. His presentation was well-received by the participants and sparked meaningful discussions on the current state and future prospects of the electric vehicle industry in Bangladesh. The research work conducted by Dr. Taskin was particularly praised by key stakeholders, including the Honourable Secretary of the Ministry of Industries, Ms. Zakia Sultana, and the Additional Secretary of RTHD, Ms. Neelima Akhter.
Dr. Taskin’s participation as the sole academic representative from Bangladesh in this high-level workshop highlights AUST's commitment toward research and innovation in the field of sustainable transportation.
