The first year, first semester is quite significant for the students of the Department of Architecture. To introduce the academic works of the western world, the studio guides of the Design Studio I arranged an in-person presentation on 4th July 2024 by Sehinta Sabeen Khan, a 3rd year student pursuing her studies at Pratt Institute in New York, USA. Sehinta explained her journey from Bangladesh to the USA. After completing her SSC, she went to the USA and pursued her fascination with Art, History by choosing architecture school. She then showcased her portfolio and explained how the teachers in her first semester emphasized her attachment with pencil, exploration of materials, especially wood, and playing with light.

She strives to build connections between conceptual ideas and their compositions. She drew inspiration from architects like Louis I Kahn and focused on the concept of commemoration or monumentality in one of her second-year projects. She also presented a project involving the reconstruction of a park, where she arranged a basketball court and a local bazaar together to allow park visitors to shop for their daily goods without disrupting the space where children play. Through this project, she explained how she explored the context and studied the activities of the people around the park. She described how she improved her sketching skills and emphasized the importance of a portfolio for architecture students. At the end of her presentation, she facilitated a group discussion with the first-year students. The initiative was led by the class teachers of Design Studio I, including Dr. Ayasha Siddiqua, Ar. S. M. Arafat Hossain, and Ar. Shahriar Mahmud from the Department of Architecture, AUST.
