A seminar on "SELF-SUFFICIENT & SUSTAINABLE ARCHITECTURE" by Architect Rafiq Azam and Architect Nur E Jannat Jui

The department of Architecture, AUST, has arranged a seminar titled "SELF-SUFFICIENT & SUSTAINABLE ARCHITECTURE" on 25 August 2022, Thursday at M. H. Khan Auditorium of AUST. The seminar was presented by Architect Rafiq Azam and Architect Nur e Zannat Jui, respectively, the Principal Architect and the Head of Design of SHATOTTO Architecture for green living, one of the leading architectural farms in Bangladesh.

Architect Nur e Zannat Jui started her presentation with outstanding international examples where "Form follows System" was focused on creating self-sufficient & sustainable architecture. In the second phase of the presentation, Architect Rafiq Azam shared three different renowned projects of SHATOTTO in three different countries. The first example was from Malaysia, where they tried to achieve sustainability through different innovative ideas. Secondly, through a project on Bhutan, he shows how local identity and natural elements can be incorporated through design. Finally, he presented a very exceptional project, 'Rasulbagh Children's Park' in Bangladesh, where he focused on local context and culture to regenerate a thriving public space. Here, the water clogging problem is considered an opportunity with the rainwater harvesting system.

The seminar generated discussions among notable faculty members and students from the Department of Architecture. Professor Dr. M. A. Muktadir honored the presenters with a crest. Prof. Dr. Rumana Rashid, Head of the Department of Architecture, AUST, appreciated the initiative of the Seminar and Workshop Organizing Committee in arranging the series of seminars, and she encouraged the speaker in her inspiring concluding speech. The seminar was believed to encourage the student participants to integrate nature into their academic studio projects. The seminar was moderated by Architect Naimul Aziz and supported by the committee members, Ar. S. M. Arafat Hossain, Ar. Farjana Rahman, Ar. Ishrat Momtaz Badhon.
