Seminar on "Blockchain Fundamentals: Understanding the Technology"


A seminar named "Blockchain Fundamentals: Understanding the Technology" is conducted by the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) at Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology (AUST). This event marked the continuation of the "Experience Sharing: An Alumni Talks" series, showcasing distinguished AUST CSE alumni as speakers. Taking place on Sunday, December 10, 2023, at 8:00 pm on the Zoom platform, the seminar had the primary objective of connecting alumni with the CSE department. Its purpose was to motivate current students by providing insights into potential career paths and acquainting them with cutting-edge technologies. Around 160 participants consisting our current students, alumni and faculty members attended the seminar.

Professor Dr. Shamim Akhter, a respected faculty member of AUST's Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) Department, hosted the special event. Using clear and expert language, he highlighted how important the seminar's topic was. He explained how Blockchain technologies evolved from a basic peer-to-peer network to a complex system connected to distributed databases. Dr. Akhter's talk went beyond the usual, making the seminar a fascinating exploration of tech advancements. He not only stressed the topic's importance but also made sure the audience had an enlightening experience.

The seminar featured Mr. Sanzar Adnan Alam, an esteemed alumnus from the 23rd batch of AUST CSE, as the keynote speaker. Currently holding the position of a senior lecturer at Independent University, Bangladesh, and serving as the Chief Executive Officer at Debug BD Ltd, Mr. Adnan shared fundamental insights into Blockchain technology, explaining its core mechanisms. He delved into subjects like cryptography, hashing algorithms, public and private keys, digital signatures, consensus algorithms, smart contracts, and decentralized applications (DApps). Furthermore, he discussed practical applications of Blockchain in different industries, illustrating its evolving role over time. The session also had an engaging Q&A segment, during which participating students eagerly raised various inquiries, showcasing their keen interest in Blockchain.

Mr. Khairul Hasan Paris, esteemed Associate Professor of the CSE department, also provided his perspective on this emerging technology. Our prominent alumni Muiz Touky, director of Deloitte, was also present there. Dr. Md. Shahriar Mahbub, the Professor and Head of the CSE Department, alongside other faculty members, graced the seminar with their presence and shared valuable insights with the attendees. In his closing statements, Dr. Mahbub thanked Mr. Adnan for dedicating his valuable time and knowledge. He expressed appreciation for the seminar committee's support and commended the active involvement of the students. Dr. Mahbub urged the committee to arrange similar workshops and seminars regularly, fostering opportunities for knowledge exchange and networking.
