The Computer Engineering Division, The Institution of Engineers Bangladesh (IEB), hosted a seminar on "Digital Transformation: A Key Role of ICT and CSE in the 4th Industrial Revolution (4IR)" on Saturday, October 7, 2023, at 06:00 PM at the IEB Council Hall in Dhaka. The event was graced, by chief guest Mr. Mustafa Jabbar, Hon'ble Minister of Posts and Telecommunications Division, Bangladesh. The seminar was presided over by Prof. Dr. Engr. Mohammad Mahfuzul Islam, PEng., Chairman of the IEB's Computer Engineering Division.
Prof. Dr. Md. Shamim Akhter, Professor, CSE Department, AUST was the keynote speaker of the seminar. The talk emphasizes "Digital Transformation", which focuses on using digital technology to revolutionize current business practices through the utilization of data and apps that have been made digital. Digital transformation includes considering new operational models, doing more experiments, improving the agility in responding to clients and competitors, applying analytics to historical data and patterns to make business decisions, communicating with other businesses, and improving the growth of the company. In the 4th industrial revolution era CSE and ICT can play an important role in transforming the physical system into a cyber-physical system (CSP). Digital Marketing with SMART intelligent decision-making can do effective communication and satisfy the customers. IoT in health can support to building SMART health care system. Industrial IoT with different enterprise resource planning, monitoring, and managing software can build the SMART cyber-physical system (CSP) for any industry. Tracing faulty areas, recovering them quickly, or monitoring the whole interconnected system can be improved through augmented reality in industrial platforms. Digital transformation can create digital data and it can help the industry to apply business analytics on them for their future decision-making endeavors. However, the cyber-physical system means sharing sophisticated information from locally to globally. Which may create privacy threats. Thus, cyber security with data and network infrastructure is a very concerning issue for those industries. Proper policies, guidelines, and strategies are required to do digital transformation.
