Seminar on "Experience Sharing: An Alumni Talks - Joyful Ride towards the First Successful Implementation of an IoT-Based Smart Lighting Grid in Bangladesh"


Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology (AUST), Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), organized a seminar titled "Joyful Ride towards the First Successful Implementation of an IoT-Based Smart Lighting Grid in Bangladesh." This inaugural seminar was part of the "Experience Sharing: An Alumni Talks" series, featuring accomplished AUST CSE alumni as speakers. Held on 4th June 2023, Sunday, at 03.30 pm in the VC seminar room, the seminar aimed to bridge the gap between alumni and the CSE department while inspiring current students about their future career prospects.

Assistant Professor Nazmus Sakib, a respected member of the Department of CSE at AUST, hosted the event, while Professor Dr. Shamim Akhter, another esteemed faculty member, delivered the opening speech emphasizing the significance of alumni engagement in student development. Prof. Dr. Shamim Akhter highlighted the importance of establishing a bridge between the alumni and the current students, emphasizing the mutual benefits that such collaboration can bring. He stressed the relevance of the seminar topic, shedding light on how Bangladesh can harness the potential of an IoT-based smart lighting grid to enhance its facilities and infrastructure. By exploring this emerging technology, the country can pave the way for advancements in energy efficiency and resource management.

The seminar featured Engr. Muhammad Mahbub Hussain, an esteemed alumnus from the 4th batch of AUST CSE, as the main speaker. Currently serving as the Managing Director of Trademajestic Ltd. (TML) and Tiger Telecom & Engineering Pte Ltd. (TEPL), as well as a Consultant at IMO, United Nations, Mr. Hussain shared his entrepreneurial journey and highlighted his motivation to contribute to the nation's advancement in the digital sector. He discussed his collaborative projects with both government and private companies, providing valuable insights into successful ventures.

One of the focal points of Mr. Hussain's presentation was the ongoing pilot project on an IoT-based Smart Lighting Grid in Bangladesh. Although still in its early stages, this project holds tremendous potential for transforming the country's infrastructure. Mr. Hussain encouraged participants to incorporate industrial knowledge into their own projects, recognizing its importance in fostering innovation and development. The seminar saw an impressive attendance of over a hundred individuals, primarily students from the CSE department, who exhibited attentiveness and eagerness throughout the session.

Dr. Md. Shahriar Mahbub, Professor and Head of the CSE Department, along with other faculty members, graced the seminar and offered valuable ideas to the attendees. In his concluding remarks, Dr. Mahbub expressed gratitude to Mr. Hussain for sharing his precious time and insights. He acknowledged the seminar committee members and university engineers for their technical assistance and appreciated the active participation of the students. Dr. Mahbub requested the committee to organize similar workshops and seminars on a regular basis, enhancing opportunities for knowledge sharing and networking. As a token of appreciation, he presented Mr. Hussain with a plaque of recognition on behalf of the Department of CSE, AUST.

The seminar on "Experience Sharing: An Alumni Talks - Joyful Ride towards the First Successful Implementation of an IoT-Based Smart Lighting Grid in Bangladesh" not only facilitated interaction between alumni and students but also shed light on the potential of IoT-based smart lighting grids in transforming the country's infrastructure. This insightful event served as a platform for fostering connections, inspiring future generations, and fostering innovation for the betterment of Bangladesh.
