Report on Humanitarian Aid Initiative by CSE Department, AUST in recent flood

The students of the Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) department at Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology (AUST) have successfully organized and executed a humanitarian aid initiative to support those in need. This effort was driven by a strong sense of social responsibility and a commitment to making a positive impact on our community.

First Phase: Immediate Relief with Dry Foods and Medical Assistance

In the initial phase of our initiative, we reached out to over 600 individuals, providing them with essential dry foods, baby foods, and medical help. Our focus was on addressing the urgent needs of vulnerable populations, particularly those with limited access to basic necessities. The items distributed included:

  • Dry Foods: Packaged food items that have a longer shelf life, ensuring that recipients have a steady supply of nutrition.
  • Baby Foods: Special care was taken to provide baby formula and other nutritious items for infants, ensuring that the youngest members of the community are well-nourished.
  • Medical Help: Basic medical supplies and over-the-counter medicines were distributed to address common health issues and provide relief from ailments.

Second Attempt: Distribution of Heavy Foods, Cloths and Further Medical Support
Understanding the prolonged impact of the flood, we extended our relief efforts by distributing heavy food items and additional medical supplies to families who were still struggling. This phase reached over 450 families, providing them with staples that would sustain them for a longer period as they rebuild their lives and cloths for 1000+ families.

The items distributed included:

  • Heavy Foods:
    • Rice
    • Lentils
    • Potatoes
    • Soybean oil
    • Salt
  • Medical Necessities: Additional first aid kits, chronic illness medications, water purification tablets

Impact and Conclusion

Our relief efforts have made a significant impact on the lives of those affected by the flood. By addressing both immediate and longer-term needs, we have helped stabilize the situation for many families, giving them a foundation to recover and rebuild. This initiative has also fostered a strong sense of community among the students, as we worked together to support those in need.

We remain committed to continuing our efforts as long as necessary, with the hope of restoring normalcy for the affected communities. Our experience in this relief operation has taught us the importance of timely and organized action in the face of natural disasters, and we are proud to have been able to contribute positively to our society.
