A professional talk for the courses Details of Construction (CE 2200) and Quantity Surveying (CE 2202) was held on 23^rd September 2025, Tuesday at 4:15 P.M. in room No. 2A06 under the Chairmanship of Prof. Dr. Md. Shahid Mamun, Head of the Department of Civil Engineering. At the beginning, Dr. Sharmin Reza Chowdhury, Professor and Treasurer, inaugurated the program by welcoming the keynote speaker and introducing him to the faculty members and students. The speaker of the talk was Sudipta Roy, Senior Deputy General Manager (Research and Development) at Meghna Group of Industries. The coordinators, course teachers of CE 2200 & CE 2202 of Fall 2024 and other faculty members along with the students were present in the session.

After the welcoming speech, Prof. Dr. Sharmin Reza Chowdhury delivered his speech very shortly on the resource person and different new technologies that have been introduced in concrete in recent years.

Following the introduction, Mr. Sudipta Roy started his presentation titled Building Construction Detail & Bill of Quantities (BOQ)'. He shared valuable insights into the entire building construction stages—from architectural planning to project completion.

He began by discussing the types of buildings and the major phases of construction, such as architectural planning, structural design, plumbing works, and design handover for construction. He elaborated on the responsibilities of professionals involved in design and construction, as well as the stages including pre-construction, land acquisition, design finalization, and BOQ preparation. Mr. Roy emphasized important structural considerations such as minimum column size requirements, development length etc. He also illustrated design stages covering foundation, beam, slab, and pile design. The discussion extended to construction stages like site cleaning, geotechnical investigation, excavation, foundation work, superstructure construction, reinforcement detailing, and concrete curing.

He highlighted the significance of quality control and material testing for construction materials such as aggregates, sand, and cement. He discussed the use of OPC and PPC cement, concrete design, placing, curing, and the role of field tests for quality assurance. Finally, he demonstrated BOQ preparation, cost estimation, and shared practical examples of construction layouts including foundation, column, beam, and reinforcement plans.

The session concluded with an interactive Q&A segment, where students participated enthusiastically. Afterward, the Head of the Department, Dr. Shahid Mamun, presented a token of appreciation to the speaker. Light refreshments were then served to all attendees.
