Seminar on “Fire Safety Concept from Perspective of Civil Engineering”


The AUST Civil Engineering Society (ACES) organized a seminar titled “Fire Safety Concept from Perspective of Civil Engineering” on August 17, 2025, at the Seminar Room of the Honorable Vice-Chancellor, AUST. The honorable Chief Guest, Prof. Dr. Md. Ashraful Hoque, Vice-Chancellor of AUST and the Special Guest, Prof. Dr. Sharmin Reza Chowdhury, Treasurer, AUST, graced the event with their presence. Prof. Dr. Md. Shahid Mamun, the Head of the Department of Civil Engineering at AUST, presided over the event as its chairman. The program was further enriched by the participation of several faculty members who played significant roles in ensuring the success of the event.

The program started with an engaging keynote presentation by Dr. Tanvir Manzur, Professor, Department of Civil Engineering, BUET and Chairman, BAETE. Dr. Tanvir presented the mechanisms of flame, heat, and smoke movement within and between structures, emphasizing the influence of materials and design features on fire progression. He explained the performance criteria governing structural behavior during fire exposure and highlighted the BNBC guidelines, which define fire resistance ratings, exit provisions, spacing, and material standards to ensure compliance with national fire safety requirements in Bangladesh. Following the keynote, an engaging question-answer session provided an opportunity for participants to discuss relevant topics with Dr. Tanvir.

Prof. Dr. Md. Ashraful Hoque, Vice-Chancellor of AUST, delivered an inspiring address as the chief guest. His speech focused on the university’s commitment to academic and research excellence, encouraging students and faculty to continue their pursuit of knowledge.Prof. Dr. Md. Shahid Mamun, Head of the Department of Civil Engineering, concluded the program with remarks on departmental achievements and expressions of gratitude to the guests and participants for their contributions to the event. The program concluded with a formal closing, marking the end of a successful and insightful session. The organizers expressed their heartfelt thanks to all speakers, attendees, and contributors who made the event possible.
