The AUST Civil Engineering Society (ACES) organized a seminar titled “Geotechnical Engineering Challenges and Providing Non-Traditional Solutions” on Sunday, December 29, 2024, at the Seminar Room of the Honorable Vice-Chancellor, AUST. The honorable Chief Guest, Prof. Dr. Md. Ashraful Hoque, and the Special Guest, Prof. Dr. Mohammed Mahbubur Rahman, graced the event with their presence. Prof. Dr. Md. Shahid Mamun, the Head of the Department of Civil Engineering at AUST, presided over the event as its chairman. The program was further enriched by the participation of several faculty members who played significant roles in ensuring the success of the event.
The program started with an engaging keynote presentation by Dr. Nur Hossain, PhD, PE, President and Principal Engineer of GEOCAL. Dr. Hossain highlighted the rapid advancements in geotechnical technologies, including AI-driven site analysis, sustainable foundation design, and advanced materials for improved soil stability. He also shared the challenges they faced and how they solved them with innovative ideas. Following the keynote, an engaging question-answer session provided an opportunity for participants to discuss relevant topics with Dr. Hossain. Prof. Dr. Md. Mahmudur Rahman, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at AUST, addressed the audience. His speech emphasized the role of Engineering in shaping sustainable futures and highlighted the contributions of academic institutions in advance innovation. The program continued with a speech from the special guest, Prof. Dr. Mohammed Mahbubur Rahman, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of AUST. He shared his perspectives on the importance of academic excellence and collaboration in driving societal progress. Prof. Dr. Md. Ashraful Hoque, Vice-Chancellor of AUST, delivered an inspiring address as the chief guest. His speech focused on the university’s commitment to academic and research excellence, encouraging students and faculty to continue their pursuit of knowledge.
Prof. Dr. Md. Shahid Mamun, Head of the Department of Civil Engineering, concluded the program with remarks on departmental achievements and expressions of gratitude to the guests and participants for their contributions to the event. The program concluded with a formal closing, marking the end of a successful and insightful session. The organizers expressed their heartfelt thanks to all speakers, attendees, and contributors who made the event possible.
