Seminar on “Quantum Electric Arc Furnace Technology for Production of Construction Steel”


The AUST Civil Engineering Society (ACES) organized a seminar on “Quantum Electric Arc Furnace Technology for Production of Construction Steel” powered by GPH Ispat Ltd. on Sunday, June 30, 2024, at the Prof. Dr. M. H. Khan Auditorium, AUST. The seminar was honored by the presence of guests, including Vice-Chancellor (In-Charge) of AUST, Dean, Faculty of Engineering, AUST, Faculty members of Civil Engineering Department, Technical Director and Deputy Manager of GPH Ispat Ltd.

The event began with a recitation from the Holy Quran, setting a respectful and solemn tone for the proceedings. Engr. Madani M. Imtiaz Hossain, Technical Director, GPH Ispat Ltd provided an insightful introduction to GPH Ispat Ltd, covering its history, mission, and significant contributions to the steel industry. Prof. Dr. Md. Mahmudur Rahman, Faculty of Civil Engineering, delivered a keynote presentation, emphasizing the importance of high strength rebar in reinforced concrete. Engr. Md. Iqbal Hossain, Deputy Manager (Technical Support) provided a detailed presentation on Quantum Electric Arc Furnace Technology, explaining its benefits, efficiency, and impact on producing high-strength steel. The presentation highlighted the technical aspects and real-world applications of the technology.

A question-answer session was held, allowing attendees to engage with the presenters and clarify their doubts. The session was interactive and facilitated a deeper understanding of the topics discussed. A quiz session was conducted through online for the students, testing their knowledge on the topics presented. This session aimed to select three students who will get the opportunity to visit the GPH Ispat factory. Md. Ashikul Islam obtained the highest scores on the test, followed by Mahpara Rahman Mampy and Md. Monem Shariar. These students would be given the opportunity to visit the GPH Ispat factory.

Prof. Dr. Mohammed Mahbubur Rahman, Vice-Chancellor (In-Charge), AUST was present as the chief guest. He delivered an inspiring speech, emphasizing the significance of industry-academia collaboration and the need for continuous learning and innovation in engineering. Prof. Dr. Md. Shahid Mamun, Head, Department of Civil Engineering, AUST concluded the event with a speech summarizing the key points discussed and thanking all the participants for their contributions.

At the end of the presentation, Prof. Dr. Mohammed Mahbubur Rahman, Vice-Chancellor (In-Charge), AUST, handed over crests to Engr. Madani M. Imtiaz Hossain, Technical Director, GPH Ispat Ltd and Engr. Md. Iqbal Hossain, Deputy Manager (Technical Support).
